Who this is for
Parents and caregivers raising a neurodivergent child (autism, ADHD, sensory needs, “different learner”) who want a real outing — without forcing a full high-stimulation day.
Suggested plan — Sunday, October 25
- 8:45–9:00 — Arrive early. Old Port / Science Centre. Water bottle, headphones, snack ready. No rush to “do everything.”
- 9:00–10:30 — Neurosphere Calm Morning. Dedicated quiet room, specialist facilitators, parents can connect while watching play. Siblings welcome.
- 10:30 — Decision point. Stay for museum exhibitions only if your child still has capacity. Leaving is a successful outing.
- Optional afternoon. Keep it small: one outdoor reset (waterfront walk) or go home. Don’t stack more venues the first time.
Calm Morning pricing note
Adults free during the quiet morning window. You typically only pay the child exhibition ticket for the day (~$27). Always confirm on the RSVP page.
Pack list (low drama)
Sensory
Noise-cancelling headphones or loops, sunglasses, preferred fidget, light sweater (AC + outdoors).
Fuel
Safe snack + water. Don’t rely on finding the “right” food on site.
Exit tools
Visual timer or phone timer, agreed code word for “we leave now,” parking/exit plan.
Parent
One other adult if possible. Your job is regulation support — not performing a perfect museum visit.
Regulation cheatsheet
- Before: show 2–3 photos of the place; preview the short morning only.
- During: parallel play is fine; no forced socializing.
- Overload signs: leave early — that still counts as a win.
- After: quiet recovery block at home (no extra activities stacked).
If the Science Centre isn’t the right day
Other lower-pressure Montréal-area options families often rotate (always check hours/crowds):
Outdoor reset
Short waterfront walk near Old Port; stop when regulated.
Green space
Parc Jean-Drapeau or a familiar neighbourhood park before trying a museum again.
Indoor quiet-ish
Library branches with kids areas on off-peak hours; leave at first red flag.
